The hiatus from social media is on its eleventh day and I’ve gained some insight into several areas of my life due to the absence of social media….
- I had conditioned myself to check social media on my phone on a regular, daily basis. I removed the FB and IG apps from my phone, as well as FB messenger so wouldn’t be tempted to click on any of them. Countless times in these eleven days, I’ve looked at the spot on the screen they’d normally be seen, only to discover they were no longer there. I might imagine the number of times I’m doing this will decrease as time goes on.
- Finding venues to take pictures for my published weekly photo gallery in the local newspaper is much more difficult without social media. I used FB “Events” feature to scope out which places were having events each weekend. Without social media, this has become quite problematic. I did before my hiatus began make a list of the upcoming events in the area and have used that list. I also plan to use another weekly tabloid here in the area to figure out what’s going on.
- I miss posting the link to my weekly photo feature in the local newspaper on Mondays and Thursdays. I do still post links on my WordPress page, but I’m noticing very limited reader numbers for those particular posts.
- I need still to develop some new daily habits, especially ones that don’t involved using my phone. I have as of yet to go out and take pictures with my camera of landscapes and such and will make a goal to do just that in the upcoming week.
