The season of Lent is less than two weeks from completion and with that time drawing near, my hiatus from social media also gets closer to ending. It’s at this time that I also contemplate whether or not I want to go back to Facebook and other social media outlets I’ve stayed away from. And it’s not always an easy decision to make.
As with the other times during Lent that I’ve taken a leave from social media, it was more difficult during the first week or so to stay away. But as time goes on, it gets easier with each passing day. That’s what creates a situation where, as you continue to stay away, you realize life is survivable without it. Eventually it becomes more natural to not even think about the time you used to spend on social media.
I will admit that I’m still on an app called “Threads” where you make posts each day, but I have found it’s a far cry from the interaction I experience on Facebook. I would, in fact, suggest that Threads is, at least for me, not social media in any stretch of imagination.
Also, as I post from my WordPress blog account, to be able to share on FB I have to log in for a short period of time. I don’t consider this to be any violation of my decision to stay away from social media for the season of Lent.
