Saturday Thoughts on April 5th…

It’s exactly one month in to my hiatus from social media. While I can say I’ve had some great plans for the time I would be gaining from this effort, I’m not so sure I’ve optimized the days and weeks I’ve been afforded with break.

Some of the activities I’ve been known for, I’ve continued to do. I visit Barnes and Noble on an almost daily basis. Coffee and coffeeshops are still an important part of my life. I have friends that I’ve gotten to know over the years and have continued those frienships even until today. I’ve met some of the most fascinating people during this time and consider them true friends.

I have continued to substitute teach during this period of time. I work at several different elementary school for anywhere from two to four days per week. I found work at one elementary school with the same group for seven days and found that especially enjoyable. There are nine school days remaining before spring break and I already have three days of subsitute teaching jobs lined up for that time period. I’m hoping that I will to be able to fill most of the others with jobs before taking the next week off, since school won’t be in session.

One of the constants in my life over the past twenty-some years has been reading and writing and that certainly has continued to be the case during this season. I’ve written quite a bit in my daily journal. It’s very rare indeed when I go anywhere without it. I sometimes will write down quotes and the like from the books I’m currently reading. Some days, I’ll write down what my plans are for that particular day. I have also started doodling when my mind begins to wander.

In my reading, I have focused on books of a spiritual nature for the most part. I’ve read several sections in books about Biblical history and the life of Jesus. Some of the chapters in the books I’ve chosen are concerning the way the brain works and has evolved over time. I also read a complete book on the first assassination attempt on John F. Kennedy’s life. I found it to be particularly fascinating.

So that’s it for now….more to come later.
