February 19, 2024 – I’ve never been accused of being too tidy. While I can fault my ADD for my current level of (or lack thereof) organization, I’ve realized through the years it’s just a part of who I am. There seems to be some sort of method to my maddness, as today’s finds pointed out.
Today has been one of those days when I look for something and along the way, find other things I’d totally forgotten about. I have a talk that I’ll be presenting in a couple of weeks and have two items that I use during the talk. One is my first journal from twenty-two years ago and the other is a meaningful page from a phonebook during thes same period of time.
I had a rough (very rough) idea of where those two items might be. My first inspection came up empty and I came to the realization that I might have to give the talk without my props. Not wanting to give up, I started looking again and on that path, found several things totally unrelated. One was a pair of legal documents that I’ll need for an upcoming court date. I was going to have to email the documents to myself and then go to the local library to print them off. Luckily, I’d already printed them off much earlier and in my quest to find the items I was looking for, found them. So I’m saving myself a trip to the library and have all that ready to go.
While I was looking, I also came upon my first AA chips from my first year in sobriety. I had gathered them in a frame and given them to my parents after that first year. When my mother died a couple of years ago and my father sold our homeplace, I took the framed tokens back. When I came upon them today, I cleaned the frame up and placed the chips back in order. Now I’ll have an additional item to share during my talk.
I eventually did find the two items I was looking for. The journal was in the place I had previously inspected…I had just overlooked it because of its small size. In the process, I found another blank journal that I’d be able to use in the future.
The second item, the page from the phone book, was on top of the refrigerator. I very carefully slid it out from under several things and now have that ready to go for my talk as well.
So there’s something to be said for not being the most organized person in the world. While it takes me some time to find things, I also come upon other items that I had completely forgotten about. It’s not totally a bad thing. Just a part of me being me.
